Petroleum Systems of West Africa

Summary

Course is split into two sections, namely a regional review of West Africa’s geological development through time (including numerous paleogeographic paleotectonic and source rock maps) and a review of the elements of several discrete basin categories, with a type example used for each. Includes play cross-sections, chronostratigraphic charts etc for numerous basins.


Duration and Training Method

1 day, attendees are given the choice of breaking the lectures with either workshop-like discussions or an exercise.


Course Content

African Plate Development through time, petroleum systems, exploration history, Pre-Salt Basins and Play Systems, Post-Salt Basins and Petroleum Systems, Deltas, Namibia and the Orange Basin, Equatorial Margin, NW African Margin


Who is This For?

All those working in petroleum opportunities in this region, including geoscientists working on individual basins or blocks and others who work closely with them (see below).


Prerequisites

Should have a geoscience background or if not, should attend ‘Introduction to Petroleum Systems’ earlier in this set of courses , which will give the necessary background knowledge.


Learning Outcomes

You will attain a knowledge of the ‘big picture’ controlling the geology and petroleum systems of this region that you can combine with your specific knowledge of an individual basin or block to come up with a more coherent evaluation.


Course includes a manual and memory stick including circa 180 original diagrams that is of invaluable use as a future reference volume.
